PRESIDENT: Charlie Keen
I am a general contractor, community theater set builder and actor, and triathlete. I ran cross country and road races with my father growing up and started to swim and bike only in the last two years.
VICE PRESIDENT: Chicora Martin
I work in student life at Mills College in Oakland, CA. I have been in the Bay area for just about 2.5 years. I did my first triathlons in Oregon where enjoying training in the rain is a requirement. I love traveling, volunteering, hiking, and exploring all the great things the bay has to offer with my partner, Alla and puppy dog Jupiter.
SECRETARY: Betsy Block
I am the Secretary for the Oakland Triathlon Club. At the age of 30, I stopped thinking “athlete” was a title that belonged to others and started doing triathlons. When not training, I am often with my preschooler, husband and two misbehavin’ beagles. By day, I help nonprofits use data to grow and be strategic.
TREASURER: Catherine McGuire
Professionally, I am the CFO for the San Francisco Police Department. Personally, I found triathlon as a way to stay fit and (hopefully) ensure mobility and health into my elder years. I like to go to live music, playing music, and DJs music and is starting to create/produce my own music.
ATHLETICS DIRECTOR: Steve Ashbaker
I am a Personal Trainer and a USAT Certified official. I have been racing triathlon for 20 years and have completed two Iron distance triathlons. My favorite race was the 2015 Escape from Alcatraz.
SPONSORSHIP DIRECTOR: Daniel Delph
I did my first full Ironman over a bet for a six pack (-: I got the endurance itch and I got it bad.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: Cecilia Han
I'm a lawyer by day, and burning the midnight oil on everything else at night. I started running three years ago, got hooked, dipped one small foot into the world of triathlon, and then got REALLY hooked. When I'm not working or training, I like to eat, cook, binge on Netflix, and have good old fashioned nights on the town with friends that involve food and a beverage or two or three...
WEB DIRECTOR: Monika Hoex
I’m a freelance front-end web designer. I picked up triathlons in 2014 after cheering a friend on during her first race. I had just learned to swim and it seemed like a fun way to put swimming into practice and try something very new. I enjoy cooking, hitting up museums, visiting with friends and trying out new restaurants, movies, video games, concerts, and getting out on my bike.
COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR: Erica Hruby
I started doing triathlons to add three new sports to the list of activities I'm super into but can’t choose between (others include lifting, climbing, and social justice/environmental/animal rights activism).
MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR: Shay Hutchings
I am currently a Recruiter for the U.S. Coast Guard and has been in the service since September 11, 2000. I did his first 70.3 after promising a friend he wouldn’t let him do it alone. And four years later, I continue to be a part of the triathlon community and is always looking to meet new people and help other triathletes in the community.
SWIM LEAD: Chris Danesi
I have been coaching swimming for 20 years at the high school, collegiate, and masters levels. I also competed for Cal State Long Beach. I have been a triathlete for 16 years and am an 8x Ironman finisher, including a trip to Kona in 2014.
SWIM LEAD: Eric Ahearn
I am a Swim Lead for OTC. Though I have been swimming for 20 years and cycling for 5, I finally got smart and started triathlons in 2016. When not not training, I'm either crunching numbers for a youth sports non-profit, tweaking the mixture for my pulled pork dry rub, or enjoying all the burritos, craft beer, and nature that California can offer to a Midwestern transplant!
RUN LEAD: Eduardo Neal
FOUNDER: Chris Van Luen
Chris is the Founder of the Oakland Triathlon Club. He is an avid racer and connoisseur of good cake.
